Kids First Parent Seminar

This four hour seminar focuses on children’s unique needs prior to separation, during divorce, and in other family residential changes. Learn about the developmental stages of children, the impact of divorce/seperation on children, the grief process, positive ways to communicate with your child’s other parent and much more.

This seminar is approved by the Kitsap County Superior Court and intended for parents involved in divorce, legal separation, or paternity actions. Please visit the Kitsap County Superior Court website to learn more about this court requirement. (see KCLFLR 10, pg. 30 on the court rule document)

Parents are not required nor encouraged to attend the same class. We want all participants to feel comfortable enough to openly ask questions and to be involved in discussions. If you register online or by mail-in form, please make sure to include the other parent's name and whether or not you are ok attending the same class. If you are not, the person who registers first has priority and the other party will be asked to register into another class. If you register by phone you will be asked this question.
Classes are not held at our main office. Classes are held in Bremerton and Silverdale. You will receive an email or letter with location information approximately 5 days prior to the class date. If you do not, please call our office at 360-307-6155 for location information. Our phone hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30am-3pm; closed on holidays.

Pre-registration with payment is required. Registration is on a first come, first served bases. Class size is limited. You may not register at the class. The DRC reserves the right to close registration for each class at our discretion.

    Safety

    Security of participants is of great importance. We reserve the right to take measures to insure the safety of seminar participants. You will not be admitted to the seminar if you are carrying a weapon or if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You will be asked to leave the seminar if you exhibit behavior that is disruptive or threatening to the participants or facilitators. We reserve the right to exclude anyone whom we believe could affect the safety or comfort of other participants.

    Fee Information

    The full tuition is $70.00 for participants with a gross monthly income over $2,500 ($30,000 per year). In case of financial hardship, reduced fees are available with proof of income or assistance. Please review the chart below:

    *You must provide proof of income (most recent) to request a fee reduction. Examples of income verification include paycheck stubs, photocopies of child support checks, unemployment checks, SSI or government assistance statement.

    **Requires TANF or SSDI statement.

    ***Requires an order from the Superior Court to waive the fee. Apply in person at the Kitsap County Clerk's office (614 Division Street MS-34, Port Orchard, WA 98366).


    Rescheduling Policy:

    We will reschedule your seminar class date one time without an additional charge, if you call at least 48 hours (2 business days) in advance of your original class date.  There is a $20 fee each time you reschedule after the first time, or if you give us less than 48 hours notice. If 2 months have passed since original registration date, you must submit a new registration form and pay the full fee. If you fail to show up at class and did not notify us, you must submit a new registration form and pay the full fee. 

    Refund Policy:

    If you cancel at least 48 hours (2 business days) in advance, we will refund your fee minus a $10 administration fee.  If less than 48 hours (2 business days) notice is given, one-half of your fee will be refunded.  No refund will be given if you do not notify us (during business hours) before the class or if you fail to show up at the class. No refund will be given after 2 months (60 days) from the initial receipt of fee.

    Replacement Class Completion Certificates:

    We will reprint a class certificate for a $10 administration fee. The class participant must call our office (360) 307-6155 or stop by our office in Old Town Silverdale to request a replacement.
